Canada Awards for Excellence

Recipient Profile

Financial Consumer Agency of Canada

2018 Certificate of Merit Recipient
Financial Wellness

The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) protects financial consumers by overseeing federally regulated financial entities and by strengthening the financial literacy of all Canadians.

In 2015, FCAC published the National Strategy for Financial Literacy – Count me in, Canada. Its vision is to empower Canadians to manage money and debt wisely, to plan and save for the future, and to prevent and protect against fraud and financial abuse.

In 2018, FCAC appointed a mental health champion as part of the Mental Health in the Federal Public Service strategy. FCAC’s mental health action plan initiatives encourage staff to invest in their mental, physical and financial well-being. FCAC regularly brings in subject matter experts and guests speakers, and each November promotes employee activities to support Financial Literacy Month, a nation-wide initiative promoting the importance of financial literacy.

“To me, a healthy workplace is one where we feel recognized, supported, respected and empowered for our contributions. We have opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. And no matter our role within the organization, we are united with our colleagues by a sense of common purpose. “

Lucie M.A. Tedesco, Commissioner of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada
