Shani Gates
Director of Quality, Information and People Services,
Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit
Shani Gates is the Director of the Quality, Information and People Services department with the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit (LGLDHU), where she has worked for over 25 years.
Over the course of her career at LGLDHU, Shani has gained experience in the application of performance management and quality tools to improve program and service delivery. As a senior leader, Shani has been instrumental in establishing a number of strategic quality, human resource and change management initiatives. She currently serves as the chair of the Health Unit’s MH@W Steering Committee and the management co-chair of the Multi-workplace Joint Health and Safety Committee.
Shani has been involved with Excellence Canada for many years and lead the development of the Health Unit’s Strategic Plan for Organizational Excellence, aligning strategic goals and initiatives with Excellence Canada’s Standard for Excellence, Innovation and Wellness. Shani serves as a senior leader sponsor and champion for healthy workplace and psychological health and safety in the workplace.
Shani participated in a provincial project to strengthen continuous quality improvement in Ontario public health units and volunteered as an accreditor with the Ontario Council on Community Health Accreditation.
Shani is a graduate of the University of Toronto and holds a Masters of Health Science. She has received training in lean methodologies from the Leading Edge Group and received a Certified Excellence Professional Designation from Excellence Canada in 2017. Shani has participated as a site verifier for organizational certifications toward the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness Standard.
