Excellence Canada
The National Quality Institute (NQI), the predecessor organization to Excellence Canada, and the Canada Awards for Excellence, were founded in 1984 by Industry Canada. The government correctly acknowledged the need to bring Canadian organizations a set of Standards focused on developing and sustaining a culture of quality and productivity which would drive Canadian competitiveness and provide the underlying structure to support intentional excellence. Our purpose was to assist organizations as they implemented these standards and to recognize their commitment and ongoing accomplishments.
In 1993, we transitioned from a government agency to a fully self-sustaining, registered not-for-profit organization, and in 2012, our name changed to Excellence Canada. Our Standards have continuously evolved as our country has evolved but our mission and purpose remain the same-as the standard-bearer of Canadian excellence in 2025, we exist to help Canadian organizations be better at what they do. To be more productive. To offer organizations the tools they need, together with a progressive pathway to sustainable excellence and improved competitiveness.
For over 40 years we’ve stood with, and behind, Canadian organizations of all sizes, across all industries, and across all sectors of the economy. Today we continue to proudly stand for Canadian competitiveness and for all the things that drive it.

Standards, Certifications & Awards
Excellence Canada is the nation's standard-bearer for excellence. We set the bar with our Standards, Certification, and Awards programs.
